It takes roughly 1,000 volunteers to make SoTxFEST happen.
Volunteers are needed to help in the following areas
and many other opportunities.
Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one shift (2- 5 hours) and will receive:
•A limited edition collectible volunteer t-shirt, to be worn while volunteering.
•$ 5 in food tickets for each volunteer, per completed shift.
•Loads of appreciation from the community & SoTxFEST Staff and the satisfaction of a job well done!

Village People – Idea Village
Volunteers are needed to help staff activity booths in the Idea Village and to act as guides for groups of children. This wonderful area, centrally located within the SoTxFEST grounds, offers 20+ different activity booths all focused on children ages 3 – 12. This is a bustling area that is completely free to all SoTxFest patrons. Please note that the Idea Village closes each evening at 7:00.
Team Member Requirements: The Village People will assist children with various activities in Idea Village. This job requires you to interact with children, their parents, and educators. This job requires team members to stand for the duration of their shift and may be asked to assist with set-up and break-down each day. Interest in education or children’s activities is a plus.
Trading Market Gurus – Vendor Team
If you love to shop or have an interest in all things Texas volunteer to help staff the Trading Market. This is busy area is a collection of over 120 of the best artisans, craftspeople, and artists Texas has to offer. Located at the center of SoTxFEST grounds, you will be charged with helping assure our vendors have a pleasant and successful market. This is a bustling area is completely free to all SoTxFEST patrons. Please note that the Trading Market closes each evening at 9:00. Trading Market Gurus will be needed from Thursday, March 22- Sunday March 25 from 10am to 9pm
Team Member Requirements: The Trading Market Gurus are responsible for checking in vendors and helping them locate their booth, assist with bring merchandise to booth and in general make sure the vendors are having the best experience possible. After the FEST opens the Gurus will be responsible for helping visitors locate vendors or merchandise they are shopping for at SoTxFEST. The Gurus will also be responsible for helping visitors to their cars with purchases if required. This job requires an outgoing personality and the ability to stand and walk for the entire shift.
Make It Happen – Concierge Service Team
Do you like helping people? Can you multi-task? This may be where you belong. Help assist SoTxFEST goers, find what they are looking for, bring their purchases to the car, describe the food truck offerings, or any of a 100 different things. If you are a problem solver you may belong here. Concierge Services will operate daily from 9am to 9 pm Thursday, March 22- Sunday March 25
Team Member Requirements: The Make It Happen Team will check-in fellow volunteers and provide volunteer t-shirts and food tokens, help locate booths for vendors and visitors, credential VIP visitors, give directions, place wristbands on incoming FEST-goers, distribute brochures and help with line control. This job requires an outgoing personality.
We’ll Get You There – Parking & Transportation Team
We’ll Get You There Team will be in our 2500 car parking area to direct SoTxFEST visitors to closest available parking and make sure that are welcomed to the FEST. Also if the FEST goers have any mobility issues a volunteer is there to arrange a ride for them from the parking area to the FEST grounds. This team will be responsible for golf cart transportation, traffic crossing and other related duties. We’ll Get You There team shifts will be available from Thursday March 22 to Sunday March 25. Parking will be attended from 9am -10pm daily
Team Member Requirements: The We’ll Get You There Team must be able to stand on concrete for entire shift and comfortable directing traffic in parking area and on streets surrounding the FEST grounds. Team members will also be the 1st impression visitors have of SoTxFEST, it is very important the team is courteous and helpful.
Got a Minuet? – Information Gathering Services Team**
Like to talk to people? This could be your volunteer spot. We will have teams stationed through put the FEST grounds to engage the SoTxFEST visitors. we want to know what they thing of the experience and what we could do better. These teams will man both fixed and mobile gathering operations. Volunteer shifts will be available from Thursday March 22 to Sunday March 25. Noon -10pm daily
Team Member Requirements: This year SoTxFEST and May’s Business School will collaborate on a questionnaire to determine the economic impact of the festival in the city. Volunteers are needed to conduct visitor surveys. Each survey consists of 26 questions and takes approximately five minutes to complete. This job requires an outgoing personality and standing and walking for the duration of your shift. **Volunteers working as Survey Takers will participate in a ticket earning program. For every 3 surveys completed, they can be redeemed at Volunteer Check-in for 1 SoTxFEST food ticket (up to 5 $1.00 tickets)
Have I Got A Deal For You! – Beverages, T-Shirt & Token Sales Team
Our core mission is to raise money to help local charities. One of the main ways we do this is through Beverage, t-shirt and token sales. As such these station are VERY important. Sales Stations will set up across the FEST grounds. We will need people to handles money, display & package products, serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and stock the stations. To work in the stations selling alcohol, a TABC license will be required and you must be 21…BUT there are many stations that will be selling tokens, t-shirts or sodas & water if you are not 21 or do not have TABC License. Volunteer shifts will be available from Thursday March 22 to Sunday March 25. 10am -10pm daily
Team Member Requirements: Have I Got A Deal For You Team Members sell official festival merchandise, tickets and tokens in our merchandise areas. This job requires sitting or standing in the area for the duration of your shift. If Volunteers are physically able may be asked to do some light lifting and restocking. This Team has a position for everyone no matter of their physical limitations.
Smoke Gets In My Eyes – BBQ Competition Team
If you like BBQ this could be your YOU! SoTXFEST will host a $10,000 BBQ Cook-Off with close to 100 teams from across the state. We will need volunteers to mark off team location, assist teams with check-in, assisting with supply distribution for teams, assuring all BBQ teams are happy. The BBQ team will have the extra bonus of smelling & tasting all the yumminess!! Volunteer shifts will be available from Thursday March 22 to Saturday March 24. 10am -10pm daily
Team Member Requirements: These positions require a significant amount of interaction with different BBQ teams and moving through the BBQ area. Volunteers will check-in teams, help with distribution of need materials to to teams, setting up tables and chairs in BBQ judging tent & BBQ Experience Area. These volunteers will be on their feet and moving the entire shift.
We Built This FEST – Set Up & Tear Down Activities Team
This is a very important team. The FEST doesn’t happen without this team. Set up will involve the placing of flags, banners & signs around the FEST and the city, marking FEST grounds to allow for tent installation, acting as runners for the contractors setting up tents, electrical and other services needed for a successful FEST. When it is all over, helping to ensure we leave Wolf Pen Creek in better shape that we found it. Set-Up shifts will be available from Tuesday March 20 to Thursday March 22. 10am -4pm daily. Tear-Down volunteer shifts will be available from Sunday March 25 to Monday March 26. 10am -4pm daily.
Team Member Requirements: The We Built This FEST Team positions require a significant amount of interaction with the tenting contractor and out subcontractors on site. Teams will be moving throughout the entire FEST area. Volunteers will help with distribution of materials, setting up tables, chairs and furniture throughout the FEST. These volunteers will be on their feet and moving the entire shift.
You Talkin’ To Me? – Curbside Smack Down Team
If you love food trucks and who doesn’t, this could be the spot for you. SoTxFEST will host the 2nd annual Curbside Smack Down. We are expecting 50-75 of the best food trucks from across Texas to compete for the $11,000 in prize money. Some trucks will began setting up on Thursday with the fast majority arrive Sunday morning. This opportunity will involve checking in trucks, showing them to their assigned locations, offering support as needed. Sunday is the Smack Down competition and you will need to help serve our special VIP guests along with making sure the judges and the trucks have everything they need. Volunteer shifts will be available from Thursday March 22 to Saturday March 24. 10am -10pm daily and Sunday March 25 from 8am – 9pm
Team Member Requirements: The You Talkin’ To Me Team will assist Food Trucks with check-in, location identification and set-up. These positions require a significant amount of interaction with Truck staff. The Team members will also assist in setting up the Curbside Smackdown Experience which will include putting together VIP credential packs, setting up tables, chairs and furniture. On competition day the Team will assist in running food from Trucks to Judges and to Experience Area. These volunteers will be on their feet and moving the entire shift.
You Scream, I Scream – World Record Ice Cream Sundae Team
Everybody loves ice cream. We will build a world record ice cream sundae over one mile long! We need help and a lot of it. The team will be responsible for set up and assembly of the world record attempt. The sundae will be assembled by sponsoring teams from throughout the area. We will also assist in the sponsoring team check-in, distribution of all ice cream and toppings to the proper areas, and assisting the Guinness Record Adjudicator in his duties.
Team Member Requirements: You Scream, I Scream Teams will check-in Sundae-Building Teams and direct to proper area, assemble and distribute Sundae-Building Team packs, setting up tables, chairs and furniture throughout the FEST. This Volunteer Team has a position for everyone no matter of their physical limitations.
It’s SoTx FEST – SoTxFEST Experiences
Throughout the FEST we will be hosting special ticketed events This team will assist in these events. The events will include SoTxMEX Ritas & Fajitas on Friday night, Brews & Spirits Sampling Tent, Breakfast from the Bayou Bloody Mary’s, Brandy Milk Punch & Crawfish Breakfast Tacos, Easy Like Sunday Morning Curbside Smack Down Taste of the best food trucks in Texas along with Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. Volunteer shifts will be available from Thursday March 22 to Sunday March 25. 8am -3pm daily. On Friday March 23 shifts will extend until 10pm
Team Member Requirements: It’s SoTxFEST Team will be very diverse. These positions require a significant amount of interaction with staff and special Experience Guests. Assist with putting together VIP credential packs and check-in of Experience guests. Team members should be outgoing. Volunteers from the local community are especially for these jobs. This Team has a position for everyone no matter of their physical limitations.
