Spirit of Texas Festival, scheduled for March 23-25 at Wolf Pen Creek Park in College Station,
is dedicated to giving back to the Brazos Valley community. Part of the festival’s proceeds will
benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley, which serves 2,417 youth in our area.
This non-profit has a mission to provide children and young people with a safe learning space,
ongoing relationships with caring adult professionals, and life-enhancing programs and
experiences. The programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley address important issues
that face young people, including academic success, good character, citizenship and healthy
lifestyles. These clubs also offer young people a safe place in the community to enjoy recreation.
Nancy Dee, the Brazos Valley Boys & Girls Club’s vice president of community relations, said
the club has always encouraged an interest in math and science among club members through
their Boys & Girls Club STEM initiatives. She is thrilled that the organization’s members will
get to spend time in the festival’s Idea Village, a series of educational pods featuring hands-on
learning activities for school-aged children.
The festival will also provide a welcome spotlight on this charity’s work with the next
generation. "One of the main reasons Spirit of Texas was created is to bring attention to local
charities,” said Cynthia Caronna, the Spirit of Texas Festival founder and executive director.
“The Boys & Girls Club plays an important role in empowering youth in our community and
helping them succeed in life. We strongly believe in supporting opportunities for the next
generation so the selection of the Boys & Girls Club as one of the recipients of the festival’s
proceeds is a natural fit with the festival’s vision."
The Boys & Girls Club of Brazos Valley leaders hope to be able to create more opportunities for
young people and their focus for this year is to increase their teen attendance. They are very
excited about being a part of Spirit of Texas Festival 2018!
