Oh My Gogi!, a Houston-area food truck, took the Grand Prize award at the Curbside Smackdown, which was part of the 2nd annual Spirit of Texas Festival, presented by H-E-B’s Creamy Creations. The festival was held March 23-25 at Wolf Pen Creek Park in College Station, Texas.
The festival brought together food trucks and foodies from across the state for a mouth-watering food fest. Each food trucks had the opportunity to put their best dishes forward to compete for $11,000 in prize money, which was awarded on Sunday, March 25. “We were excited to be hosting food trucks and foodies from across Texas,” said Cynthia Caronna, the festival’s executive director. “The Spirit of Texas Festival is truly about bringing people together whether that be through music, shopping, or food! From donuts to Dutch to barbecue, we were proud to host a wide variety of food trucks!”
Winners of the Curbside Smackdown were:
- Grand Prize: Oh My Gogi!, a fan-favorite fusion of Korean and Mexican food from Houston.
- Best Dessert: Dutch Lady, a Lindale-based truck dedicated to serving authentic Dutch cuisine.
- Best International: Over the Plate, serving savory and affordable gourmet food that is based at Ft. Hood.
- Best Between the Buns: Oh My Gogi!
Oh My Gogi!, who has gained a large following across the Houston area, is known for their funky twist on fusion food. The truck’s menu boasts Korean-Mexican burgers, quesadillas, fries, dumplings and more. Oh My Gogi! plans on returning to the festival to compete in years to come.
The 2018 Spirit of Texas Festival supported nonprofits whose work affects the lives of youth: the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Brazos Valley; Von’s Vision (founded by Texas A&M football legend Von Miller); K9s4Kids; and Mobility Worldwide.
