Spirit of Texas Festival Publicity Committee

Howdy! Ready, set, mark your calendars!

We are excited to announce that Bryan/College Station Habitat for Humanity will hold its “Run for the House 2018” fun run during this year’s Spirit of Texas Festival. The race will take place on Saturday, March 24 at Wolf Pen Creek Park in College Station.

On-line registration for the Run for the House 2018, which offers a 5K fun run and a 2K fun walk, is already available. Participants also may register in person beginning at 7 a.m. on race day. The actual race will start at 8 a.m. and cover a closed course around Wolf Pen Creek Park.  Runners and walkers of all fitness levels are welcome. All race proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity.

B/CS Habitat for Humanity partners with low-income families in the community to provide affordable, safe homes. The non-profit, which constructs on average about 12 homes a year, is currently building its 286th home. “We cannot do what we do without the generous support of individuals, groups and businesses in our community,” said Jane Sherman, B/CS Habitat for Humanity marketing and communications manager. “Opportunities like scheduling the race during the Spirit of Texas Festival provides us not only an opportunity to raise funds but also raise awareness of what Habitat does and the increasing need for affordable housing in our community.”

Festival organizers are excited about the addition of the race to the festival’s agenda. “The Run for the House is an important addition to our festival schedule. Spirit of Texas is designed to highlight the best of Texas and to give back. Habitat for Humanity, which is one of the most active non-profits in our area, provides such an important service to our community,” said Cynthia Caronna, the festival’s founder and executive director. “We hope that race participants will stay afterwards to take part in the festival. They can recharge by enjoying amazing offerings from our food trucks and BBQ competitors and then hear live music as they shop at the Trading Market. Plus, everyone will want to join in the fun as we break a Guinness World Record by creating and eating the world’s longest ice cream sundae.”
